The Albert Lea girls’ swimming and diving team competed in the Section 1A true team meet Saturday.
The Tigers came in sixth-place out of nine teams.
Karli Kriewall took second-place in the diving event, which was a complete 11-dive list Saturday.
“Karli annihilated the school record,” Albert Lea assistant coach Erik Johnson said.
Kriewall scored 364.10 points, blowing away the old school record of 319.10, which had stood since 1991. This is the second school record for Kriewall this season. She had previously broken the record for the six-dive list.
“Breaking the record today was a little bittersweet,” Kriewall said. “I was pumped when I broke the record, but I wished I could have gotten three more points to win the whole thing.”
Kriewall finished 3.35 points behind St. Peters’ Alissa Lager. “What is important here is at the section meet in November, the top four divers advance to state,” Johnson said. “Kriewall was in the top eight last year, so her finishing second is huge,” added Johnson.
The Tigers swimmers started out strong in the 200 medley relay, a team made up of Kemma Bergland, Lindsey Horejsi, Amy Horejsi and Galen Schulz, and finished fifth with a time of two minutes and .19 seconds.
Lindsey Horejsi also had a fifth place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:27.41.
Schulz and Amy Horejsi finished fourth and seventh, respectively in the 50 free.
In the 100 butterfly, Amy Horejsi brought home a fifth-place medal for her time of 1:07.31. Hannah Hertling swam into 15th place for the Tigers with a time of 1:13.24, three seconds faster than her previous best time.
Schulz grabbed fourth place in the 100 free with a time of :57.36. The girls’ 200 free relay team made up of Schulz, Lindsey Horejsi, Morgan Field and Amy Horejsi ended in fifth place with a time of 1:47.12.
“We made a statement in the breaststroke” Johnson.
Morgan Field had an impressive race finishing in first-place with a time of 1:12.59.
“I have been working very hard this year and it’s paying off,” Field said. “I am excited to see what the rest of the year has to bring for not only me but also the the team.”
Lindsey Horejsi had a third place finish with a time of 1:13.08.
The 400 free relay team made up of Whitney Rasmussen, Anna Anderson, Bailey Sandon and Kemma Bergland had a seventh place finish with a time of 4:08.85.
“The meet went well, the long distance swimmers cut a lot of time,” Amy Horejsi said.
In the 500 free, Whitney Rasmussen cut almost six seconds and Sara Rasmussen cut 24 seconds to give both of them best times of the season.
