The Albert Lea High School Music Department will present its first concert of the year on Friday, Oct. 29. The concert will be held at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea at both 6 and 8 p.m. to accommodate the traditionally large crowd. The concert will feature the chamber orchestra and the ALHS symphony orchestra, directed by Rebekah Crissinger and the concert choir, varsity choir and tiger choir, directed by Diane Heaney.

The chamber orchestra is excited to perform a George Bizet classic, “Farandole.” The orchestra will be performing a variety of music including the well-known, “In the Hall of the Mountain King,” by Edward Grieg and, “Yorkshire Ballad” by James Barnes.

All three choirs will perform with both secular and sacred works. Familiar folksongs, “Shenandoah,” “Bright Morning Star” and “Three Folk Songs” by Brahms will be performed, as well as several African pieces, “Bonse Aba” and “O Sifuni mungu.” The concert choir will join with the chamber orchestra plus winds to perform “Crossing the Bar” by Gwyneth Walker. The finale piece will be “How Can I Keep From Singing?” with all the choirs singing.

Tickets for the concert are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students and are available at the door. There will also be a $35 family music concert pass sold at the door that will admit a family to all regular orchestra, band and choir concerts for the whole year.
