Mall to feature live music

Northbridge Mall wants to entertain mall-goers with a variety of musical styles.
Marketing Director Val Otterson said the program started on Thursday with Eddie & The Cruisers. Sunday at 1 p.m. featured the musical stylings of Kozy Lil’ Duo. Otterson said they just wanted to offer something different to entertain mall-goers as they walk throughout the shopping center.
“It’s something we’re just going to try out,” Otterson said.
Now through November, and possibly later depending on the popularity, there will be shows the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. And every other Sunday there will be shows at 1 p.m. Musicians and bands will play for two to three hours.
“They’ll mostly be in the center court unless there’s some other event going on,” Otterson said.
Other scheduled musicians are:
• June 24: Jamie and Cody (pop music)
• July 5: Dunnell Lenort (classic country)
• July 8: Tim Stoneking (progressive pop and acoustic)
• July 22: Indescrepancy (progressive rock and acoustic)
Otterson said they worked to get a variety of different musical styles on the schedule. She worked closely with the Lighthouse Event Center to find musicians and bands who could perform.
“It’s just something new for our shoppers,” Otterson said.
The idea came about from the success of the blue grass band performances throughout the winter. Otterson said the music will be low-key and something people will enjoy hearing whether they grab a seat or just walk through the mall.
Another new event is Men’s Night, which is tonight. Otterson said the evening, for men age 21 or older, is a way to thank the public. There will be food and drink samples, and all the stores will participate with special events like putting at Dunham’s Sports. The mall’s 26th anniversary is coming up on June 21, and Otterson said there may be a celebration of that, too.
