Here are highlights in history for Oct. 24, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1988 — A series was based on area barns. In this edition the featured barn was owned by George Goodnature and located directly north of the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. (This barn still exists.)
1978 — Ralph Harrington of Waterloo, Iowa, was trying to acquire property along South Newton Avenue for a bowling alley. He was also trying to obtain the city’s last liquor license.
1948 — The Tribune endorsed the election of Thomas E. Dewey to be the next U.S. President. (Dewey lost the election the following month to Harry S. Truman.)
