MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Democratic Rep. Tim Walz has beaten Republican Randy Demmer in a southern Minnesota race that had been targeted nationally as a potential GOP pickup.
Walz survives an anti-incumbent wave to win a third term in a swing district.
Demmer, a state legislator, tried to paint Walz as too liberal.
The national parties and other outside groups poured more than $1 million into the race, about two-thirds of it aimed at beating Walz.
Besides his party, Walz got support from moderate Republicans, veterans and the National Rifle Association.
