1960 grad of ALHS to be named to HOF

Albert Lea High School graduate of 1960 Lew Kennedy will be the third person inducted into the Albert Lea Hall of Fame on Saturday at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.
Kennedy was a three- sport athlete, playing football as the star halfback, running track and wrestling.
On the football team Kennedy averaged 7.3 yards per carry.
During his four years on the wrestling team, Kennedy was a three-time Big Nine Conference Champion and three-time district and regional champion. He was undefeated in dual meets for three years.
In his junior year of high school, he placed second at the Minnesota State High School Wrestling Tournament and became state champion at 133 pounds his senior year.
On the track Kennedy was a member of the 44-meter relay team and was district champion in 1958.
After high school, Kennedy went on to wrestle at the University of Minnesota. He finished his senior year at the U of M with a 31-0 record. He was also named Big Ten champion, team captain and outstanding wrestler for the Gophers.
The Albert Lea Hall of Fame will be the third hall Kennedy has been inducted into.
In 1995 he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, and in 2000 he was inducted into the University of Minnesota Athletic Hall of Fame.
Kennedy will be inducted into the Albert Lea Hall of Fame during the Saturday events at Wedgewood along with seven other ALHS graduates.
A four-person best shot golf tournament will be at 10:30 a.m. A silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m. and a meal with guest speaker Eric Nyquist will be served at 6:30 p.m.
All proceeds from the Hall of Fame are donated to ALHS to reduce participation fees for high school athletes.
In the two years the hall has been around, it has donated more than $14,000 to the school.
