Perhaps there is a way to save money in the election for the 1st Ward seat on the Albert Lea City Council.

Freeborn County already has to hold an election in its 5th Commissioner District to fill the seat vacated by the embroiled Linda Tuttle. The 5th Commissioner District and Albert Lea’s 1st Ward do not overlap, so it wouldn’t save on that aspect.

However, wouldn’t it still save on the cost of having county elections officials work one evening if the two elections were held on the same date, rather than two dates?

The requirements for a filing period might make the dates not work out, but, still, the idea is worth exploring.
