Hawthorne Elementary School students and families enjoy their first P.I.E. (Partners In Education) Night.
On Nov. 11, 60 kids and their families celebrated books, special words and pie during a “Fancy Nancy and Dapper Dan Sioree.
Boys and girls came in their finest attire and learned new words from the story “Fancy Nancy and the Posh Puppy.” Gently used books were swapped and brand new books were chosen by all who attended. Parents learned about the importance of talking to kids about interesting words and making time to read together for at least 20 minutes every day. The evening ended with a finale featuring ice cream pie, lots of exciting prizes and ecstatic kids.
P.I.E. Nights will be presented throughout the 2010-11 school year at Hawthorne. The next fun and free event will be a “Bears and Books Brunch” to be held in January.
More than a dozen Hawthorne teachers and principal Corrine Tims volunteered to make the first P.I.E. Night event a huge success!
