Catherine Pederson, 86, Red Wing

Catherine Ann Pederson, 86, of Red Wing died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Fairview Seminary Home. She was born on Jan. 19, 1924, in Virginia, Minn., to Joseph and Ruby (Fabich) Judnick. She graduated from Virginia High School and then attended Junior College in Virginia. She worked in Virginia for Kelly Furniture for a several years. She married Earl Pedersen on June 14, 1946. They lived in Thief River Falls, Marshalltown, Iowa, and then moved to Red Wing in 1957. She worked at Goodhue County Welfare Department until they moved to Albert Lea where she worked for the Freeborn County Welfare Department. Earl died March 11, 1988. In 1991 she moved back to Red Wing. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, and volunteered for St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and knitting.
She is survived by two daughters: Susan (Niles) Deden of Red Wing and Jan Pedersen of Minneapolis; one granddaughter, Heather (Travis) Reis of St. Paul; one great-grandson, Landon Reis; one brother, Robert (Barbara) Judnick of Virginia; and one sister, Judy Orr of St. Paul. She is preceded in death by her husband; three brothers: Bill, Joe and Don Judnick; and one sister, Dolly Manley.
Mass of the resurrection will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Thomas Kommers presiding. Burial will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home- Bodelson Chapel, and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or Kidney Foundation.
