Former ALHS girls’ soccer player Whitney Wilson helps lead UMD to NCAA Division II tournament

Whitney Wilson, an Albert Lea High School graduate and member of the University of Minnesota-Duluth women’s soccer team advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs last week after winning the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/U.S. Bank Soccer Tournament last Sunday.

Wilson assisted on two goals in the tournament, including the game-winning goal against Northern State University in a 2-1 opening round victory. She also assisted on the first goal of the championship game against Winona State. Both of the goals came from corner kicks taken by Wilson. UMD went on to win 2-1 and advance to just its second NCAA Division II tournament in school history.

The fourth-seeded Bulldogs (16-2-2), one of 48 teams in the NCAA Division II tournament, will travel to Denver Friday to face No. 5 seed Minnesota State, Mankato.

Wilson has played in every game this season for UMD and has one goal and four assists in her junior season.
