Weekend Planner: Midwest ski tournament starts Friday

A one-man music project from central Iowa will hit the stage at the Where It Matters bar in Albert Lea Saturday evening.

The music project goes by the name Unknown Component and features Keith Lynch on guitars, vocals, piano and drums. He will play from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Where It Matters is at 1119 S. Broadway Ave. in Albert Lea.

 

Friday

• Albert Lea hosts the Midwest Regional Ski Tournament at Edgewater Bay. The tournament is free and features 12 teams competing for regional titles and hoping to earn a trip to the national competition.

Saturday

• A zombie-themed pub crawl starts at 5 p.m. and will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Registration and food will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harold’s Bar, then the crawl moves to Legend’s from 8 to 9 p.m., Eddie’s from 9 to 10 p.m., the American Legion from 10 to 11 p.m., the Aragon from 11 p.m. to midnight and the Nasty Habit from midnight to close. There will be a costume contest at 1 a.m. and raffle drawings throughout the night. Cost is $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Call 507-402-4868 for more information.

Sunday

• The Albert Lea American Legion Post 56 Honor Guard will host a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the American Legion. Menu includes pancakes, scrambled eggs with diced ham, potatoes, fruit cup, juice and coffee. Suggested donation is $7 for adults, and children age 6 and younger get in free.
