Lake Mills’ Josie Brackey was named the Tribune’s softball Player of the Year.
As a senior Brackey set the school record for strike outs in a season and strike outs in a softball career.
She threw 388 strike outs in the 2012 season and a career total of 1,433.
She pitched 205 1/3 innings in a total of 29 games. Her season record was 24-5 with a .89 ERA.
As a batter Brackey had 29 hits, nine doubles, one triple, two home runs and 29 RBIs. She batted 103 times.
On July 22 and 23 Brackey played in the Iowa All-Star Game and was named first team All-Conference in the North Iowa Conference.
Brackey, the daughter of Warren and Sara Brackey, will continue her softball career at Iowa Central Community College this fall.
Bulldogs coach Sabrina Roll said Brackey has put in the time it takes to be a good pitcher and said she will do great at the college level.
“Going in as a freshman she’ll be at the bottom of the totem pole, but I think it will take her to the next level,” Roll said. “She’s been ready for it for a while.”
Brackey was a two-sport athlete in Lake Mills, who also excelled at volleyball.
