Gun control in US is not the answer

The cry for gun control has arisen again. Obama said, “We recognize the traditions of gun ownership that passed on from generation to generation — that hunting and shooting are part of a cherished national heritage.” The Second Amendment isn’t about hunting, but about citizens protecting themselves from tyranny.

“This year will go down in history. For the first time, a civilized nation has full gun registration! Our streets will be safer, our police more efficient, and the world will follow our lead into the future!” — Adolf Hitler

Countries occupied by Nazis had strict gun controls. It was registration lists that facilitated confiscation of firearms and execution of the owners. Nazis seized power with search-and-seizure of firearms aimed at political opponents. In 1938, during Night of the Broken Glass, they disarmed the Jews. When the Nazis occupied Europe 1939-41 , they proclaimed the death penalty for any person who failed to surrender all firearms within 24 hours.

Nazi invasion plans stated that, because of Swiss shooting skills, Switzerland would be difficult to conquer and pacify; possibly why Nazis did not invade Switzerland.

In Switzerland the militia system requires automatic rifles and/or semiautomatic pistols to be kept in the homes of all males aged 20 to 42 and firearms are easily available. Firearms, however, are rarely used in violent crime. In fact, Switzerland has substantially lower murder and robbery rates than England, where most guns are banned.

In the Middle East the citizenry are being slaughtered not by lone gunmen, but by their own governments.

Some of the strictest gun laws in the country belong to Chicago. It’s difficult to obtain a gun legally and keep it in your home in Chicago. Yet Chicago’s homicide rate is up 38 percent from last year and has been increasing for years. Interesting fact that Chicago’s murder rate since 1965 has always been higher than the national average. This is Obama’s very liberal hometown.

The very seat of our government is riddled with crime. Lt. Lowell Duckett, president of the Black Police Caucus, in a Washington Times editorial (1996) said: “Gun control has not worked in D.C. The only people who have guns are criminals. We have the strictest gun laws in the nation and one of the highest murder rates.”

Family Circle Magazine picked Kennesaw, Ga., as one of America’s 10 Best Towns for Families. In 1982 Kennesaw passed a law requiring that the head of every household own a handgun, with exceptions (criminal record, religious objection, handicap, etc.). The town did not see a rise in violence. On the contrary, crime plunged 89 percent and has stayed low ever since.

I’ll end with another quote from Hitler: “The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subject races to possess (‘keep and bear’) arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed the subject races to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing.”
