Maturi to be honored with hometown field renaming

CHISHOLM (AP) — Recently retired University of Minnesota athletics director Joel Maturi is getting a hometown honor.
The Iron Range town of Chisholm renamedits high school football field after Maturi on Saturday.
Maturi was a three-sport athlete in high school. He played football, basketball and baseball in high school before attending Notre Dame.
In 2002, Maturi was named the Gophers’ AD. During his decade-long tenure, Maturi managed the merger of the men’s and women’s athletic departments and led the way for the Gophers’ new TCF Bank Stadium on campus.
The Gophers won NCAA titles in men’s and women’s hockey and wrestling during Maturi’s tenure.
