Rebels cruise to opening round win against Maple River

The top seed in the Section 2AA playoffs showed what it’s capable of Tuesday as United South Central throttled Maple River 46-8 in the first round of the football playoffs in Wells.

Riley Swearingen ran for two touchdowns and three for three as the Rebels (8-1) delivered one of their best performances of the season. Swearingen finished with 93 yards rushing and threw for 156.

USC scored on six of its first seven possessions and held a 40-0 halftime lead over the winless Eagles.

Eric Lackey returned the opening kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown and Swearingen ran for two 1-yard touchdowns.

William Huper had an 18-yard touchdown reception while Lackey caught a 27-yard touchdown pass and Kyle Bauman snagged a 20-yard touchdown pass.

“We did what we were suppossed to do and now we get to move on and play Triton who put up a lot of points,” said Rebels head coach Brad Huse.

USC faces the No. 4 seed Cobras, who defeated New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva 32-8, Saturday in Wells.
