Here are highlights in history for Dec. 16, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1986 — The large oak tree that actually grew through the roof of the Green Lea Golf Course clubhouse was cut down the previous day. (The building’s back portion was originally built around the tree’s trunk.)
1976 — A change in ownership at the Cubbyhole, 721 Marshall St., on the city’s north side would result in a “Hello-Goodbye Party” the following day.
1956 — For more than 30 years an out-of -town benefactor had been buying meals for those less fortunate at Albert Lea’s Canton Cafe.
