The Lake Mills football team couldn’t slow down No. 2-ranked Emmetsburg Friday in a 51-6 loss in Emmetsburg to end the regular season.
The E-Hawks (9-0, 7-0 Class 1A, District 2) wrapped up the district title with the win and the Bulldogs (5-4, 5-2 Class 1A, District 2) finished third in the district to advance to the playoffs for the first time in two seasons.
“We just had a tough time getting anything going on both sides of the ball,” said Lake Mills head coach Bill Byrnes.
Emmetsburg rang up 447 yards of total offense, 421 of which came on the ground.
The Bulldogs had just 70 yards of total offense and running back Jake Brekken rushed for 15 yards.
Alex Grunhovd scored the lone touchdown of the game for Lake Mills on an 84-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs hit the road to face South Winneshiek in the substate playoffs Wednesday.
