GLENVILLE — The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to take extra precaution in light of a recent string of thefts in this community.
Freeborn County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Shea said since the beginning of August there have been about a dozen reports of theft from Glenville.
Reports have included stolen bikes and other items stolen from vehicles. In some cases, vehicles had been gone through but have had nothing taken.
“The more information we have the better,” he said.
He asked for any incident of theft to be reported to authorities, even if people think it was something small.
“If you see or hear something suspicious, call us right away,” Shea said.
He gave a series of tips for residents to follow:
• Lock your vehicles and make sure keys are not in the automobile.
• Don’t keep anything valuable in plain sight in the vehicle.
• Put bikes away in the garage or in another storage facility.
• Call right away if you hear or see something suspicious.
Shea said Sheriff’s Office deputies are trying to conduct extra patrols throughout Glenville when possible.
So far, authorities have no leads on who the suspect — or suspects — could be, Shea said.
However, they are assuming all of the thefts are done by the same person, or group of people.
