ST.PETER- The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers girls’ basketball team looked to extend their five game winning streak to six on Wednesday as they played the Worthington Trojans in St. Peter at the St.Peter Holiday tournament.

The Panthers did just that as NRHEG defeated Worthington 60-56 to move onto the championship round.

“We really pressured their guards forcing 32 turnovers and grabbing 27 steals,” NRHEG coach John Schultz said. “We were much more solid defensively. We didn’t shoot that well, but we won the battle of the boards again.”

The Panthers were led by Carlie Wagner, who scored 20 points, while Jade Schultz had 15 points.

Anna Schlaak also had 11 points and 13 rebounds for NRHEG.

“It was nice having Anna Schlaak back from an injury,” Schultz said. “She put up some big overall numbers and had some big steals late in the game to put it away.”

While the Panthers shot 31 percent from the field, they did win the battle in rebounds with a 37-29 advantage.

NRHEG will play in the championship on Thursday as they take on host St. Peter at 3:45 at the St. Peter High School gym.

NRHEG 27 33 – 60

Worthington 20 36 – 56

NRHEG scoring: Carlie Wagner 20 points, Jade Schultz 15, Anna Schlaak 11, Kristina Cole 9, Raelin Schue 2, Danielle Krueger 2, Tori Raimann 1.
