James Ziemer, 76, of Bricelyn

James E. Ziemer, 76, of Bricelyn, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. The Rev. Luther Peterson will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Winnebago. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn is in charge of arrangements.

Ziemer

James E. Ziemer was born April 13, 1934, in Emmet County, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Myrtle (Campbell) Ziemer. On April 22, 1961, he married Dee Ann Jenkins and they were married until her death in June of 1980. On June 14, 1984, he married Esther (Erickson) Sahr at Bricelyn Lutheran Church in Bricelyn.

He attended District No. 9 Country School and graduated from Ceylon High School in 1952. He served with the US Marines in Korea from 1953 to 1955. After returning from Korea, he lived in the Fairmont area and graduated from Reppert School of Auctioneering in 1955. He enjoyed working at Winnebago Implement and Auto. He was a volunteer for the Winnebago Ambulance, president of the Bricelyn Community Club, convocator at Waldorf College, served on the board at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center and was Grand Marshall at the Bricelyn 4th of July Celebration in 2007. Jim was a very giving and thoughtful person. He enjoyed playing games, making projects in his workshop, camping and fishing. He loved birds, especially watching them from his gazebo. Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his seven grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Ziemer, of Bricelyn; a son, Ross (wife Lois) Ziemer of West Fargo, N.D.; two step-sons: Jeffrey (wife Patti) Sahr of Bloomington and Rick (wife Stephanie) Sahr of Forest City, Iowa; a step-daughter, Janna (husband Mark) Grinde, of Faribault; seven grandchildren: Heather Sahr, Michelle Sahr, Steven Sahr, Cory Sahr, Michaela Sahr, Alyssa Grinde and Erin Grinde; two sisters: Mary (husband Alvin) Schultze of Welcome and Barbara (husband Dwain) Hartwig of Fairmont; two brothers: August (wife Pat) Ziemer of Hutchinson and Robert (wife Kay) Ziemer of Ceylon; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his sister, Mathilda “Tillie” Looft; and first wife, Dee Ann Jenkins Ziemer.
