Nelson, Rockets top Tigers 4-1

Nicole Nelson recorded two goals as the Rochester John Marshall Rockets girls’ hockey team defeated the Albert Lea Tigers 4-1 Tuesday in Rochester.

Along with Nelson, Marissa Bruesewitz and Katie Armstrong both had goals for the Rockets.

Sophia Jepson scored the lone goal for the Tigers.

Rochester John Marshall scored first when Nicole Nelson scored on a power-play goal at the 9 minutes and 14 seconds mark to give the Rockets a 1-0 lead in the first period.

The score stayed 1-0 until the second period when Katie Armstrong found the back of the net at the 1:03 mark to give John Marshall a 2-0 lead.

The score remained 2-0 after the second period.

In the third, the Rocket’s Nicole Nelson scored her second goal of the game at 9:28 to give John Marshall a 3-0 lead.

Less than two minutes later, it was the Rockets again as Marissa Bruesewitz scored a goal to give John Marshall a 4-0 lead.

The Tigers got on the at 15:49 when Sophia Jepson scored to cut the Rocket lead down to 4-1.

Mia Bruesewitz earned the win for John Marshall as she recorded 16 saves on 17 shots.

Sydney Conley took the loss as she made 24 saves on 28 shots.

Albert Lea is back in action at 7:30 p.m. Thursday as they travel back to Rochester to take on the Spartans.
