Here are highlights in history for Jan. 6, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1988 — A heavy snow had insulted Fountain Lake from further freezing and city police and the sheriff’s office were warning people to stay off the lake ice.
1978 — The Albert Lea City Council was considering a proposal to purchase the former garage building at the corner of South Washington Avenue and West Pearl Street for a new parking lot. (Note: This proposal never became a reality.)
1958 — Robert W. Bruce was installed as the new president of the Albert Lea Kiwanis Club.
