Help fight cancer with the annual Cans & Cash for Cancer at the Albert Lea Eagles Club this Saturday.

It’s simple.

Drive by and donate your aluminum cans. The collection will kick off at 8 a.m. with a live radio broadcast by KATE Radio.

Then stick around and enjoy one of several activities slated throughout the day. Pool and cribbage tournaments start at 10 a.m., followed by a silent auction and a food auction from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live music will add to the fun from 1 to 4 p.m.

Warm, hearty meals with comfort food are sure to please, as well. A hot beef lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and a stuffed pork chop supper will be served from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Albert Lea Eagles Club is located at 205 W. William St., Albert Lea.

Cans & Cash for Cancer is one of several events leading up to the 2011 Cancer Telethon. All proceeds will go toward cancer research.

The Geneva Cancer Auction in Geneva is also on the roster, starting at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Geneva Bar & Grill.

Several other events are going on throughout the weekend, including:

Friday

• A burger basket fundraiser for area youth hockey programs will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Moose Lodge in Albert Lea. The cost $7 per person. The event is hosted by the Albert Lea Youth Hockey Association.

• The Albert Lea Jr. Gold Hockey Team is hosting a fundraiser dinner of burgers, chicken and pulled pork from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Leo Carey American Legion Post 56. The cost is $8 per person.

• A healing prayer service will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. at Our Father’s House in Albert Lea.

• Enjoy Texas hold-em at 7 p.m. and dinner of sloppy joes at the Eagles Club, 205 W. William, Albert Lea. Tom Minehart will provide karaoke and dance music starting at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday

• Enjoy the music of the Dordt College Choir concert, starting at 7 p.m. at the Hollandale Christian Reformed Church.

• Call2Fall Evening of Prayer and Worship will be from 7 to 9 p.m. at Our Father’s House in Albert Lea.

• The Full Draw Archery Youth Club program is open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon, located upstairs in the Knutson Building (the first building north of the post office). The club is also sponsoring a 3-D Tournament fundraiser from 5 to 10 p.m. Thirty 3-D animals of various sizes at unmarked distances will be featured. Three will be pop-up targets and three more will be moving on a track. Everyone is invited to come and shoot. The fundraiser will continue from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Sunday

• An Amaranth Pancake Breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee will be served from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge, located above the community theater in Albert Lea.

• The Albert Lea Girls Basketball Boosters will host a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Moose Lodge in Albert Lea. Admission is $6 per adult. Children ages 5 and under eat free.

• The annual Knights of Columbus free throw contest is open to all boys and girls age 10 through 14. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the contest begins at 1 p.m. at St. Theodore’s school gym. The winner is the best of 15 shots. Proof of age and a parent’s permission slip are required for children to participate. Winners will receive trophies and a chance to compete at the district contest. St. Theodore’s is located at 323 E. Clark St., Albert Lea.
