Albert Lea’s Karli Kriewall continued her outstanding season in 1-meter diving Tuesday in Faribault for the Albert Lea girls’ swimming and diving team in a 99-76 loss to the Falcons, nearly eclipsing a school record.
Kriewall, who hadn’t lost a diving competition to a Big Nine opponent until last week against Owatonna, scored 196 points to finish second in the event and was six points shy of matching the school record of 202. The 196 marked a personal best for Kriewall, who also flirted with two school records Saturday at the Austin Invite.
“Karli Kriewall is doing just an outstanding job for us,” said Tigers head coach Jon Schmitz.
Albert Lea had a 1-2 finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with Gracie Thomas winning the event with a time of 1 minute, 14.30 seconds and Morgan Field placing second with a time of 1:16.35. Amy Horejsi added a fourth-place finish in the event with a personal-best time of 1:17.73 in the Tigers’ strongest event.
Galen Schulz placed second in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and nearly won the 50. Faribault’s Payton Brasseaur swam a 26.36 to beat Schulz by three-tenths of a second.
The 200-medley relay team of Whitney Rasmussen, Field, Horejsi and Schulz grabbed a second-place finish with a time of 2:04.24.
Jasmine Hanson had a season-best time in the 500 freestyle and Kim Nelson added a season-best time in the 100 butterfly as the Tigers gear up for the Big Nine Conference meet, which they host this year Oct. 31. Albert Lea returns to the pool next Tuesday for a home meet against John Marshall.
