Here are highlights in history for Jan. 18, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:
1992 — There was a proposal to convert the Waseca campus of the University of Minnesota into a federal prison. (Note: This proposal became a reality several years later.)
1982 —The Community Education Department of Albert Lea Public Schools was organizing a local concert band. This band would be directed by Laverne Walheim of Glenville.
1952 — The Rev. A.C. Swenson, pastor of First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove, came back to the area after a five-month trip to the Belgian Congo in Africa.
