Here are highlights in history for Jan. 20, gleaned from the files of the Albert Lea Tribune:

1984 — There would be seven candidates for the title of Freeborn County Pork Queen. The coronation would be held on Jan. 28 at the Albert Lea Union Center.

1974 — Charles Myers retired after 30 years on the board of directors of Albert Lea Jobs Inc.

1954 — Voters in Hayward approved the construction of a new elementary school. The vote was 117 for and 23 against this project.
