Glenville-Emmons loses first game 40-37 to Hope Lutheran
GLENVILLE — Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball coach Dan Fredrickson said his unbeaten Wolverines were bound to lose because of their sloppy play as of late. He just didn’t expect it to happen Friday night against Hope Lutheran.
But the high-scoring Wolverines (14-1, 10-1) shot just 3-of-20 from the 3-point line and lost their first game of the season 40-37 to the Hope Lutheran Patriots (6-8, 4-8).
“It was a shocking loss,” Fredrickson said. “We played a little tight during the final five minutes and that’s what happens in close games.”
Shocking because the Wolverines beat the Patriots by 44 points on Dec. 10.
After having an average margin of victory of 28 points through their first 11 games, the Wolverines’ last three wins have come by an average of only 11 points, including a nine-point win at Northwood-Kensett, Iowa, on Thursday.
The Wolverines have also struggled playing teams for a second time this season. After beating Immanuel Lutheran by 47 points on Dec. 9, the Wolverines beat them by 12 points on Jan. 13. And after beating Lyle/Austin Pacelli by 41 points on Dec. 13, the Wolverines squeaked by with an 11-point win on Tuesday.
The Wolverines trailed 22-20 at halftime Friday and had 20 turnovers for the game. They also shot 16-for-52 from the field.
Landon Hall led the Wolverines in scoring with 13 points and Tyler Woodside chipped in 11. Andrew Lau had nine points and 16 rebounds.
The Wolverines play again at 7:15 p.m. Monday at Schaeffer Academy (0-11, 0-11).
