Waldorf College gets ready for Homecoming Weekend

The Waldorf College Homecoming Weekend will be Oct. 2-4, and the events will include a variety of events for alumni and the general community. The homecoming theme is “Honoring the Past; Embracing the Future.”
A full schedule can be found at www.waldorf.edu; however, the public is especially invited to the following events:
Friday, Oct. 2
7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. — Luise V. Hanson Library and Archives open.
9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. — Waldorf Bookstore Open.
6 p.m. — Homecoming Candidate Review and Coronation in the Atrium.
7:30 p.m. — Waldorf Theatre Presents “Our Town” at the Smith Theatre. Join us as we celebrate 75 years of continued, organized theatre at Waldorf College. Playwright Thornton Wilder explores the role of the family in community and how the uniquely American town of Grover’s Corners shapes individuals’ identities. Saturday, Oct. 3
8 a.m. — 5-kilometer run/walk. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at Hanson Fieldhouse.
8 a.m.-6 p.m. — Luise V. Hanson Library and Archives open.
9 a.m. — Book signing by Kent Stock at Voss Hall outside the Book Store. 1982 alumnus Kent Stock will be signing copies of his new book “Heading for Home,” the story that inspired the motion picture “The Final Season.”
9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. — Waldorf Bookstore open.
10 a.m. — Homecoming Parade.
10:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. — Q&A Session with CSU and Waldorf Leadership Teams at Smith Theatre.
11:30 a.m. — Tailgating meal sponsored by the Waldorf Warriors Booster Club to be held north of Bolstorff Field. Cost is $5 per person for non-booster members.
2 p.m. — Football game at Bolstorff Field. Cheer on the Warriors as they play Iowa Wesleyan College and enjoy some fun halftime entertainment.
2 p.m. — Women’s soccer game. Warriors vs. Iowa Wesleyan College at the soccer field.
1-4 p.m. — Carriage rides. Take a sentimental journey tour of campus and downtown Forest City via horse and carriage. The tours are free to Waldorf alumni, and they depart fromt in front of Salveson Hall.
3:15 p.m. — Campus tour. Take a student guided tour of campus. The tours leave from Salveson Lobby.
4 p.m. — Men’s soccer game. Warriors vs. Iowa Wesleyan College at the soccer field.
8 p.m. — Sword Swallower Dan Meyer at Recital Hall.

Sunday, Oct. 4
10 a.m. — Festival Worship Service at the Odvin Hagen Music Center. All are welcome. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Bob Vaage — a 1979 graduate who serves at First Lutheran Church in Milford, Iowa. Presiding over the worship will be Rev. Steve Smith, Chair of Religion/Philosophy at Waldorf.
11 a.m.-2 p.m. — Waldorf Bookstore open.
