RCC soccer team to play in A.L. today

The Riverland Community College soccer team will play against Century College today at 2 p.m. at the Albert Lea campus.
The team was 5-9 before Friday’s game in Owatonna against Carleton.
According to the Blue Devils head coach Troy Stegenga, the team, which is a club team this year, has had games scheduled at each of the school’s campuses to extend the vision of Dr. Sonar Dogan who believed in extending the games to where the students originate from.
Dogan is the former head coach of the team who resigned after three years because of family reasons.
The 2012 team is made up of players who graduated from local high schools, but also players from Texas, Georgia and South America.
Even though it’s a men’s team, there are two women on the team, Maing Garcia and Cindy Doan. The reason being is that the school doesn’t have a women’s team because there hasn’t been enough interest expressed.
Stegenga said the team is expected to be a varsity team again next year.
Admission to today’s game is free.
