The Albert Lea Tigers boys’ basketball team led the No. 8-ranked Owatonna Huskies 31-30 Tuesday with six minutes left in the first half but couldn’t hang on, falling 91-69 in Albert Lea.
The Huskies (18-1, 12-0 Big Nine) ended the first half on a 10-0 run by taking advantage of the Tigers’ (3-12, 1-10) turnovers.
“The last three minutes of the first half were crucial,” Tigers head coach Lucas Kreuscher said. “I thought we gave up some easy transition points.”
The Tigers made four 3-pointers in the first half and led or kept it close much of that time.
“Offensively, we did a nice job moving without the ball and attacking the basket,” Kreuscher said.
The Tigers were led by Kyle Ooms with 16 points and nine rebounds. Alik Smed scored 11 points and Tyler Wichmann chipped in eight points and four assists.
The Tigers play again at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Faribault (5-14, 4-7).
