The memorial service for Robert H. Dowd will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Timothy Reker and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation one hour prior to the service at church.
Robert Dowd passed away at St. John’s Lutheran Home on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012. He was 84 years old.
Robert was born in Albert Lea on June 8, 1928, to Harvey and Henrietta (Larson) Dowd. He grew up in the Scarville and Kiester area and graduated from Kiester High School. In 1949 he married Mary M. Lyneis at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Albert Lea. He drove a gas truck in the Kiester area and later moved to Albert Lea where he worked for Wilson & Co. for 33 years. He also worked for Ruben Lindall’s filling station and drove ambulance and school bus part time. After he retired from Wilson & Co., he worked for Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines for nine years as a cooling and heating engineer and after retiring from there, moved back up to Albert Lea.
Robert was an usher at St. Theodore Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, the Eagle’s Club, and was on the board at the Senior Center. He was a past president of the Wilson’s Retiree Club and called bingo for the Knights of Columbus, Wilson’s Retiree Club, and the Senior Center.
Robert is survived by his wife, Mary Dowd; children, Linda (Jim) Norgard of Brooklyn Park, Karen (Craig) Westrum of Albert Lea, Pamela Dowd of Rochester, Donna (Daryl) Waltz of St. Paul, and Virgil (Cindy) Dowd of Albert Lea; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brothers, Stan (Wanda) Dowd of Albert Lea, and Donald Dowd of Albert Lea; and brother-in-law, Eldon (Joyce) Lyneis of Colorado; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his son, Raymond; parents; sister, Beaulah Martinson-Randall; brothers-in-law, Hubert Martinson, Max Randall, Robert Borge, and Floyd Lyneis; sisters-in-law, Ruth Borge, and Margaret Dowd; nieces and nephews; and cousins.
