Stanley Stenzel, 82, Wells

Stanley Anthony Stenzel, 82 of Wells, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at his home. A Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells with Rosary at 4 p.m. led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. The Rev. Tom Niehaus will officiate and the interment will be in St. Casimir Cemetery in Wells. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is in charge of arrangements.
Stanley was born March 16, 1930, in Dunbar Township, Faribault County, the son of Peter and Helen (Kukuzke) Stenzel. He married Dorothy Mae Giese on Jan. 13, 1958, in Wells. He served in the Korean War and was a member of the Wells VFW. Stanley was a lifelong farmer; he was a man of great faith, a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Freeborn Township Board. He worked seasonally for Birds Eye for 22 years and also sold seed corn for many years. He enjoyed Bingo, puzzles, card club, the casino, dancing and traveling. He especially loved his grandchildren and enjoyed going to all their sporting events and activities.
Stanley is survived by his seven children: sons, Steven (Julie) Stenzel and Larry (Juanita) Stenzel, all of Wells; five daughters, Rita (Ed) Niebuhr of Wells, Diane (Fran) Baudoin of Dexter, Suzie Lutteke (Don Martin), Cindy (Mike) Weber all of Wells, and Teresa (Mark) Halbach of Northwood; 19 grandchildren: Ben, Josh, Kayla and David Stenzel; Angie (Tyler) Pierson, Darin (Calli) Stenzel and Anthony Stenzel; Crysta, Jordan and Felicia Niebuhr; Elana (Mat) Lyrek, Colette Baudoin; Brooke, Travis and Whitney Lutteke; Carly and Delaney Weber; Marisa and Gavin Halbach; also two sisters: Therese McCue and Virginia Deyle; four brothers, Emil (Lois) Stenzel, Victor Stenzel, Marvin (Joyce) Stenzel and Dennis (Laura) Stenzel; three sisters-in-law: Marilyn Stenzel, Dorine Miller and Mildred Long; and many nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy Stenzel, in 2009; brothers, LeRoy Stenzel and David Stenzel, in infancy; and sister-in-law Kathy Stenzel.
