On Dec. 3, the Tribune published an editorial suggesting Vikings coach Leslie Frazier bench Christian Ponder and play Joe Webb. This was a day after he threw inaccurate passes and two interceptions in a loss to Green Bay at Lambeau Field.

We wrote: “Benching him won’t shatter his confidence, but it could give this team a shot at the playoffs. Webb might be able to provide the accuracy the Vikings so desperately need.”

The Tribune hereby retracts its Dec. 3 editorial.

Ponder went on to guide the Vikings to four straight wins, looking poised and accurate, lifting his team into the playoffs, including a victory Sunday at Mall of America Field over the Packers.

And kudos to Frazier for understanding how to coach athletes better than armchair fans like us.
