Save the children and citizens

I feel like I should bring out some points about the Connecticut school tragedy where 20 children and six adults lost their lives.
First and foremost, when adults are not using firearms, the firearms should be locked up and only the adult or a responsible person should know where the key is kept or know the combination to the lock. If the mother of this maniac had done this — she, the children and adults would still be alive.
I do not like the government telling us certain firearms should be taken off the market. You probably have seen on TV or have read about the run to buy these guns. I don’t understand why people need or want a gun with a 30-round magazine, but we, the responsible people, have the right to buy them by the Second Amendment.
Second, background checks are not thorough enough to keep the firearms out of the hands of criminals or mentally ill.
If these things were followed, family members and criminals would not be able to use firearms to kill.
