Geneva Cancer Auction tops weekend full of activities

GENEVA — The 29th annual Geneva Cancer Auction benefitting the Eagles Cancer Telethon continues Friday and Saturday.
The event is at Geneva Bar & Grill. There are four nights of auctions, with all proceeds benefitting cancer research. Events start at 7 p.m. Friday and start at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
At 5 p.m. Saturday, there will be hair cutting so people can donate to Locks of Love.
Also on Saturday is the raffle drawing at 10 p.m. Prizes include a 50-inch TV and Blu-ray player, and cash prizes starting at $100.
The event is open to the public. Since its inception the auction has raised more than $1 million for cancer research.
Friday
• Prairie Wind Coffee hosts Meet the Met from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. where people can learn more about the Saturday showing of “Maria Stuarda.”
• St. Theodore Catholic Church will host a fish fry from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children age 12 and under and free for children age 4 and younger. Menu includes fish or shrimp served with coleslaw, dinner roll, choice of potato and an ice cream sundae bar.
• The Geneva Cancer Auction begins at 7 p.m. at the Geneva Bar & Grill.
Saturday
• The Alden American Legion will host a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. Cost is $4.
• The Marion Ross Performing Arts Center hosts the live showing of the Met Opera’s “Maria Stuarda” at noon. Tickets are $20 for general admission, $18 for members of ACT or Civic Music, and $12 for students under age 30.
Sunday
• The Masonic Lodge above the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center hosts an Amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Menu includes Amaranth pancakes, sausage, eggs, orange juice, milk and coffee. Donations will be accepted.
• The Albert Lea Alano Society hosts a breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at 1005 Ulstad Ave. in Albert Lea. Cost is $5 per person. Menu includes pancakes, French toast, eggs, toast, hashbrowns, sausages, juice and coffee.
