Wolverine boys defeat Houston

GLENVILLE — The Glenville-Emmons boys’ basketball team earned its second win of the season over the Houston Hurricanes 63-42 on Friday.

“It was a real team effort,” G-E head coach Jared Matson said. “A lot of guys stepped up for us.”

Andrew Everson earned a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Nick Anderson added 14 points and nine boards. Derek Olson continued an impressive season with 13 points.

On the defensive end of the court, Christian Voss shut down Houston’s leading scorer, while scoring eight points of his own.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead and scored evenly with the Hurricanes in the second half.

G-E improves to 2-12 on the season.

 

Panther girls top Blooming Prairie

BLOOMING PRAIRIE — The New-Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva girls’ basketball team defeated Blooming Prairie 79-52 on Friday.

Blooming Priarie trailed by only 11 points at the half, but the Panthers made corrections after the break, NRHEG head coach John Schultz said.

“We were more patient offensively and defensively in the second half,” he said.

Carlie Wagner led the Panthers with 36 points and seven rebounds, while Jade Schultz earned 15 points and eight boards and Paige Overgaard tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.

“Carlie loosened the defense with her six 3’s, and Jade penetrated the defense well,” coach Schultz said. “Paige Overgaard also had a huge night.”

NRHEG is ranked No. 2 in class 2A with a record of 15-1.

 

Blossoms knock off Panther boys

NEW RICHLAND — The New-Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys’ basketball team fell to the Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms 69-50.

Spencer Tollefson and Trevor Tracy tied with a team-high 12 points to lead the Panthers.

The Blossoms jumped out to a 23-point halftime lead, which they maintained in the second half to preserve the win.

However, Churchill said his team is improving and it will learn from the loss.

The Panthers fall to 4-11 on the season.
