Regino Navarro, 89, Wells

Regino Hermogines Navarro, 89, of Wells, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at the Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. A Rosary will be led on Thursday at 12:45 p.m. at the church, and visitation will continue from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the church. The Rev. Mark McNea will officiate and burial will be in St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Wells. Military honors will be accorded by the Wells Color Guard. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells is assisting with arrangements.

Navarro

Regino was born Sept. 7, 1921, in Sabang, Sibonga, Cebu Philippines, the son of Maria Navarro and Arcadio Hermogenes. On Aug. 3, 1945, Regino was united in marriage to Martina A. Navarro in the Philippines. He attended college for one year. Regino served as a PFC in WWII, from March 7, 1946, to Sept. 23, 1964. He was in A Company/Battalion 271 Infantry 91 Division in the Philippines. He was also a construction foreman in the Philippines. Regino made custom shoes and billiards, and ballet shoes in the Philippines. He worked for many years and retired from Swift Echrich in Wells. He enjoyed fishing, was a Vikings fan, loved to dance, play guitar and play pool with his son.

He is survived by his brothers: Claudio Navarro and Abundio Navarro; seven children: Carmen (Bob) Jewett of Woodbridge, Va., Flordelis (Restituto) Diaz, Elizabeth (Carmelito) Tagalog, all of the Phillipines, Virginia Navarro, Regimar (Mary) Navarro, Mildred Navarro and Alma Navarro, all of Wells. He has one adopted son, Miquel Alvarez in the Phillipines, 12 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Martina; and three grandchildren.
