More freezing rain is expected

More freezing rain is in the forecast for tonight, according to the National Weather Service.
“Another round of wintry precipitation, with light freezing rain, rain, sleet and snow is expected to expand from west to east across the area this afternoon into Tuesday morning,” the Chanhassen-based bureau states.
A low-pressure system enters the region today, bringing the wintry mix of rain and snow, but National Weather Service meteorologists said that ought to turn to light snow Tuesday morning before it tapers off.
Southern Minnesota was in a dense fog advisory until noon today.
Freezing rain made driving and walking on Sunday difficult. A winter storm warning was in effect. The Minnesota Department of Transportation asked motorists to make no unnecessary travel in the area due to icy roads caused by rain, wet snow and freezing temperatures. Snowplows salted the streets and roads in preparation for the Monday morning commute.
Several crashes were reported on area streets and roads Sunday, though so far no reports indicate serious injuries stemming from the crashes.
Albert Lea police and Freeborn County sheriff’s deputies responded to almost a dozen traffic crashes, none with injuries, on Sunday.
Albert Lea School District, along with St. Theodore Catholic School and Hollandale Christian School, started two hours late today. United Preschool had no morning preschool.
United South Central School had a two-hour delay today, with morning preschool canceled.
Other schools like New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva, Alden-Conger, Lake Mills and Northwood-Kensett all started two hours late Monday.
