Tigers slide vs. Scarlets

Boys fall 4-1

The Albert Lea boys’ hockey team fell at Mankato West 4-1 on Tuesday.

The Scarlets took a 2-o lead in the first period, but the Tigers fought back. Albert Lea cut its deficit to one point with a goal by Alex Claassen. Lucas Peterson was credited with the assist.

However, West added one goal in the second and another in the third period to secure the win.

“We played well,” Albert Lea head coach Roy Nystrom said. “Our shots were about even, and we played a good team tonight.”

The Tigers play another tough opponent, Rochester Lourdes at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Eagles are 12-7, but they have lost three straight matches.

“If we play like we did tonight, we’ll give them a good game,” Nystrom said.

Albert Lea is 7-12-1 on the season and has lost two in a row.

 

Girls stumble 2-1

The Albert Lea girls’ hockey team hosted Mankato West and lost 2-1 on Tuesday.

A pass from Anna Englin to Ashley Willet resulted in Albert Lea’s goal. Goalkeeper Katie Schwartz earned 23 saves.

The Tigers outshot the Scarlets 23-11 in the final two periods, but West was able to prevail.

Albert Lea fell to 10-14 on the season.

Next, the Tigers play at Mankato East/Loyola at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
