Funeral services for Chris Christensen, 74, of Albert Lea will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Joel Erickson will officiate. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Albert Lea veterans organizations. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Chris died on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, at his home.
Luverne (Chris) Edward Christensen was born on Dec. 1, 1938, in Freeborn County, the son of Edward and Martha (Davidson) Christensen. Chris attended school in Albert Lea and then served his country in the U.S. Marines. He was united in marriage to Joan Heilman on July 23, 1958, in Cherry Point, N.C. After his discharge the couple returned to Albert Lea where Chris was a Realtor and owned several businesses including Dog-n-Suds and the Bend in the Road. He retired from working in 1997. Chris enjoyed gardening and being in nature, traveling and spending time and doing things for his children. He had a great sense of humor that was shared with his family and many friends. Chris was a member of the Elks Club, Union Center, Eagles and the VFW.
Chris is survived by his daughter, Tari Ferrie; sons, Troy Christensen, Tab (KiKi) Christensen and Ty Christensen; grandchildren, Rikki, Jaimie, Cali, Tina, Elliott, Torey, Taven, Kailey and Evy; three great-grandchildren; sister, Linda (Wayne) Nelson; brother, Dave (Jeanine) Christensen; and brother-in-law, Larry Knutson.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joan, brother, Duane Christensen in childhood, sister, La Vonne Knutson and his in-laws Floyd (Lefty) and Hazel (Crocker) Heilman.
