You Can Help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for other things, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Sibley Wednesday morning reading club: Have you shared a great story recently, especially one that inspires elementary students? Sibley Elementary School needs two or three more adults willing to read to a small group in grades kindergarten through fifth. You can call 377-2420 or 377-7433 to arrange for reading with the children between 7:45 and 8:20 a.m. Wednesdays. Remember to leave a message saying what is the best time to return a call to you.
Mentors: Community Mentor Connection needs male mentors for boys at risk. This could work well for you and your spouse as an opportunity to give back in our community and change a child’s life. Spend an hour or two a week sharing positive role models with a child. Many group activities are planned for everyone with costs covered and training provided. Contact Carolyn Smith at 877-232-8399 or starsforkids@yahoo.com.
Art shop volunteers: Have you always wanted to work in a retail environment without all the pressure? There are two openings for Art on Broadway, Albert Lea Art Center, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Volunteers will be trained; the Art Center office manager is available to assist as needed. Call the Art Center at 373-5665.
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
