On Jan. 12, this pickle jar was auctioned off for $1,850 at the Eagles Cancer Research benefit in Albert Lea. The same jar has been passed around to the highest bidder since 1999 when Vicki Westeng first donated it. The first year the winning bidder, Gary Iverson, paid $50 for it in memory of a loved one. Iverson was responsible for getting the pickles encased and made into a trophy. Listed on the back of the trophy are names of loved ones of whom the trophy had been bid on in memory for. To date, the gallon-sized jar has raised $11,285 toward cancer research. --Submitted
