The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for other things, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.
Pelican Breeze: Thinking ahead to spring, you can offer passenger hospitality as first mate on the Pelican Breeze II. They are also looking for a volunteer to handle crew-scheduling for the scenic tours. For more information please call Cheryl Page at 402-1759 or 377-1898 or Pelican Foundation President Paul Stieler at 383-3513.
Taste of Heritage: Saturday, April 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. will be the Taste of Heritage event at Northbridge Mall. They need two volunteers willing to help for part or all of the time. These volunteers are helping in the children’s section doing a cultural activity. Instruction and craft demonstrations are provided at 12:45 p.m. that day at the children’s table. All supplies are provided.
Headstart: Reading stories with and listening to preschoolers at the Brookside Education Center is a key step for getting ready for kindergarten. Three readers are most welcome! Opportunities are Monday through Thursday, late morning or early afternoon. Call 379-5160 to schedule a time that works for you. A volunteer for office tasks is also needed.
Art shop: There is one opening for volunteers at the shop at Art on Broadway, Albert Lea Art Center, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Volunteers will be trained; the Art Center office manager is available to assist as needed. Call the Art Center at 373-5665 for more information.
RSVP, a program of Senior Resources of Freeborn County, receives some funding through the United Way of Freeborn County, the Minnesota Board on Aging and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
