50 years ago – 1963

• The Moose Auxiliary of the 30-30 League won the team title in the Albert Lea Womens’ Bowling Association City Tournament. Team members were Doris Hanson, Arlene Delle, Terry Brua, Sylvia Lindahl and Dee Peterson. Shirley Imme won the All-Events and Lorrie Kelly won the straightaway All-Events.

• After eight straight losses, the Freeborn High School boys’ basketball team defeated Alden 64-53. Les Honstad scored 21 points, Rod Schultz, 18, and Orv Jordahll, 12, for Freeborn. Alden was led by Bob Lindeman with 18 points and Gary Johnson with 12 points.

• John Goodmanson scored 17 points and Tom Olson, 16, for the Albert Lea High School basketball team in its 62-54 loss to the Austin Packers.

 

25 years ago – 1988

• The ALHS boys swimming team improved to 6-1 in the Big Nine Conference, after defeating Mankato West 97-74. Chad Bergo won the 200-meter freestyle and the 100-meter butterfly for the Tigers.

• Balanced scoring for Wells-Easton led to their 76-47 victory over St. James. The Wildcats raised their season record to 14-2. Scott Heggen scored 16 points, Mike Swanson and B. J. Fisher had 12 points each and Dave Lindley, 11, for Wells-Easton.

• The ALHS boys basketball team lost to Mankato East 71-64. Matt Sullivan scored 22 points and Chad Jensen, 15, for the Tigers.

 

10 years ago – 2003

• The Alden-Conger girls basketball team defeated Glenville-Emmons 45-42 behind 15 points and 11 rebounds by Jenny Krueger. Jenna Brackey and Alisa Rayman scored 12 points each and Katie Brackey, 11, for Glenville-Emmons.

• In the semi-final round of girls’ Section 1A hockey, ALHS defeated Mankato West 5-0. Laura Hillman scored three goals, Tessa Christensen and Brittany Arendt, one, each for Albert Lea.

• The ALHS girls’ basketball team defeated Mankato East 53-50. Leading the Tigers were Danielle Rankin with 15 points and 9 rebounds and Jenny Hovendick with 13 points.

• Moe Hargrow scored 17 points, Rick Rickert, 16, and Michael Bauer, 15, for the Minnesota Gophers in their 77-64 win over Iowa in a Big Ten Conference basketball game.
