GLENVILLE — The Glenville-Emmons chapter of FFA has many fun activities planned to celebrate National FFA Week.

This week there will be dress up days and a field day on Thursday to commemorate FFA Week, which is once a year on the week of George Washington’s birthday. FFA Week gives its members a chance to educate others about agriculture. Glenville-Emmons’ chapter plans to have an activity day on Thursday afternoon.

Its historian, Madi Ziebell, said activities planned include a pie eating contest, butter sculpting, team jump rope and much more. Dress up days include: blaze orange or camouflage today, cowboy/cowgirl or redneck with a milk mustache day on Wednesday, blue and yellow or FFA apparel day on Thursday and tractor or truck apparel on Friday.

Glenville-Emmons FFA members also had success recently with one officer making the region officer team and two members winning at a regional competition to advance to the state competition.

President Kendra Davis and Vice President Sam Johnson took the top two placings out of 12 contestants last week at a regional competition at South Central College in North Mankato. Davis said they competed in a discussion about the Farm Bureau.

“They give you topics beforehand and you have to research them,” Davis said.

FFA member Spencer Krier also competed at the event. Davis, Johnson and Shawn Johnson also interviewed to get their state FFA degree. All were approved. Vice president Johnson and Dalton Nesset also interviewed in hopes of making the regional officer team. Johnson was made the vice president of Region 7.

“I’m really excited,” Johnson said. “I just figured I’d go for it.”

Davis was a regional officer last year, and since she’s graduating in June, this will be her last year with the FFA.

“I’ll miss it a lot,” Davis said. “It’s brought me a lot of good leadership skills and helped me grow as a person.”
