DEXTER — The Minnesota State Patrol has released the name of the person who died in a rollover late Wednesday night.
Jared Burnell, 22, of Pittsfield, Mass., was traveling east on Interstate 90 in a 2009 Toyota Corolla around 11:30 p.m. when it went off the road and rolled near the 200 mile marker, which is near Dexter. The car stopped in the westbound lane and was struck by a 2000 Cadillac DeVille, according to the Minnesota State Patrol’s crash report. According to the Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Burnell was partially ejected from the vehicle and died. Burnell was wearing his seatbelt, and the car’s airbag deployed.
Two Austin 18-year-olds, Mathias Weinmann and Heather Knutson, were in the DeVille and suffered minor injuries. They both were wearing seatbelts and sustained minor injuries.
Road conditions were listed as wet. The National Weather Service in La Crosse, Wis., reported only trace amounts of snow at the time, but wind gusts of 10 to 20 mph out of the north. No alcohol was detected in anyone involved.
This was the second fatal crash in Mower County on Wednesday. In the first accident, 16-year-old Tess Landherr, of Rose Creek, died after the car she was driving collided with a Southland school bus on Highway 56.
