ST. PAUL — The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva wrestling team is sending one wrestler to the quarterfinals at the state tournament on Friday.
Cordell Peterson earned a 7-5 decision in the 106-pound weight class over Barnesville’s Brady Tweeton in the first round. In the quarterfinals, Peterson (28-17) will face Austin Anderly (14-2) of Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena/Indus. Anderly beat Andrew Nissen of Blackduck/Cass Lake-Bena/Indus in the first round by major decision, 14-2.
Dillon Kubiatowicz lost a 5-0 decision in the 113-pound weight class to Kimball’s Blane Tschida.
“I just wanted to be aggressive on the mat,” Kubiatowicz said. “It’s gone better this year than last year, and I’m excited for wrestlebacks.”
If any wrestler loses in the first round, he has a chance to make it to the match or third place, unless the wrestler who defeated them in the first round loses in the second.
