About 3 inches of snow fell overnight in the Albert Lea area, with winds of 15 to 25 mph, but the question this morning around town was: How much snow will fall across the region tonight?
A winter storm warning remains in effect for Albert Lea and much of Minnesota through Tuesday.
Lake Mills and Northwood-Kensett schools had a two-hour delay today.
Radar this morning showed snow and possibly drizzle headed toward Albert Lea, likely to hit before this newspaper reaches doorsteps.
The National Weather Service forecast says: “Snow before 10 a.m., then snow, possibly mixed with freezing drizzle. High near 31. East southeast wind around 15 mph.”
The forecast says areas of Minnesota ought to get another 6 to 12 inches of heavy snow in a second wave of snow tonight and Tuesday. The heaviest areas are to be near the Minnesota-Wisconsin border.
The forecast for Albert Lea says another 1 to 2 inches during the day today, 3 to 5 inches tonight, then another 1 to 3 inches Tuesday.
So let’s summarize: First snow, then drizzle that freezes to the sidewalks as ice, then heavy snow to cover it all up. Stay safe out there.
