Komets knock off Tigers in sections

The Albert Lea girls’ basketball team was unable to pull off upsets in back-to-back games in the Section 1AAA tournament on Saturday.
No. 3-seed Kasson-Mantorville defeated No. 7-seed Albert Lea 67-58.
The Tigers trailed by nine points at the half and tied the Komets in the second half.
Junior guards Bryn Woodside and Sydney Rehnelt led Albert Lea offensively, combining for 35 points.
The Tigers finish the season 11-14 overall, 7-10 in the Big Nine Conference and 4-4 in Section 1AAA.
The loss snaps a four-game winning streak, the Tigers’ longest of the season.
Albert Lea started the run with a 75-61 win at Mankato West, followed by a 64-51 victory over Faribault and a 49-39 win at Rochester Century.
In the first round of the sectional tournament, the Tigers knocked off No.2-seed Winona 49-47.
