Organizers of the Fountain Lake Sportsmen’s Club Ice Classic wanted to reassure the public their event is still taking place from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday near Fountain Lake Beach. Registration begins at 10:30 a.m.

Cost is $5 per line.

Fountain Lake Sportsmen’s Club President Dave Villarreal said officials checked the depth of the ice — after having several days with above-freezing temperatures — and the ice still seems thick enough to be safe for the tournament.

However, officials are advising no travel on the ice with automobiles.

People should park on the street near the beach area.
